Balloonfest needs parking volunteers

Nonprofit organizations looking to raise money might consider volunteering to help direct parking at the Michigan Challenge Balloon-fest, set for June 22, 23 and 24 in Howell.

The Howell Area Chamber of Commerce Michigan Challenge Committee will make a donation to area nonprofit organizations for each four-hour shift worked by a volunteer in the organization’s name.

“Working with nonprofit organizations to help park vehicles at the Michigan Challenge is just another way Balloonfest gives back to this community,” said Michigan Challenge Director Michelle Tokan. “It’s a unique fundraiser, and some organizations earn thousands of dollars.

”Contact the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce at (517) 546-3920 for more information. Volunteer parking forms can also be downloaded at www.michiganchallenge.com.

Island Home

Developers in China have turned his home into an island to force him to sell.

The villa now stands alone in a 30ft deep man-made pit in Chongqing city, reports Jinbao Daily.

"The villa owner refuses to move, so the real-estate developer has had to dig out all around it to force him to," says a saleswoman at Weilian Real Estate Sales Company.

"He wants 20 million yuan, or he'll stay till the end of the world." More here.
